Damdama College is one of the foremost educational institutions in Kumrup District. The Department of History was established in the same year of the establishment of the college, in 1978. Since its inception, the department has been offering an undergraduate B.A. three years degree course in regular courses, and in the academic session of 1993–1994, the major/hons course was introduced. The department organizes yearly trips and excursions to places of historical importance to enrich students' understanding of historical relics. Presently, there are three sanctioned post in the department.

Vision

The history department aims to make students aware of the past and its legacies through teaching, research, and other extension activities. We believe that only a critical understanding of the past will enable the students to understand the present and help them to look forward to the future.

MISSION

• Transform the students into responsible citizens of the country by imparting knowledge of the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters to make our country free from the colonial regime.
• The department is on a mission to promote local history of the area where the institution is prevailing, including larger part of Assam.
• Department is targeting strengthening the research activities through signing MOU with other colleges.
• Department is also focusing on developing visual and practical learning to make the subject more interesting
• department is also trying to develop professional skills, analytical skills and problem solving ability among the students.
• department is therefore planning to introduce diploma courses for the students
