Brief History of the Department.
The department of english, established on the 9th of august, 1978 boasts a distinction of producing good scholars, musicians, debaters and social activists. while Dr. Rebati Ranjan Sengupta and Narendranath Sarma were its founder teachers, Miss Mahua Bhattacharjee, Dr. Mrinal Medhi and Dr. Dhrubajyoti Malakar were the others who chipped in. The department today has three permanent faculties: Mrs. Pratibha Deka as the HOD, Dr. Saurav Sengupta (assistant professor) and Prerana Priyam Doley, as assistant professor. It is a matter of honor for the department that its faculties have been recognized for their merits both from the student fraternity as also from the larger society at large and have been appointed as supervision officers for examinations and as resource persons both within the institution and outside. Many have produced scholarly articles and works of academic importance and have been published by national and regional publishers. the department’s resources are its students, many of whom have found placements and engagements in the government and the non-government sectors.
Vision & Mission
Vision: To develop the department as a centre of academic excellence. To attract students from other regions and nurture their potential for growth,so that their skills contribute both to regional and national mission policy on education. Also to ensure that academecians and scholars from near and far find this department home for their creative activity.
Mission: To improve student intake in the department and encourage them to do well in their examination and finally to ensure that their creative energies are streamlines through workshop, seminars, student exchange programs, research etc. Introduce more skill-oriented course through the development of the college infrastructure and collaboration with other institutes. Engage more in faculty development programs, help faculties in their professional growth through memberships in organization; create more research-based scope for academic exercise. Secure more funds for departmental growth through consultancy, major and minor products.
