Department of Assamese

The Assamese Department of Damdama College was established in 1978. From the beginning of the department to 2018, the subject has been taught both in H.S and degree level. Late Dwijendra Nath Dutta & Late Rajani Prasad Malakar was the founder teachers of Assamese Department. At that time, the Department . of Assamese always tried its best to maintain socio-cultural relation as well as literary contributed inside and outside the college in the help of various socio-cultural organizations and institutions. In the year 1988, the Assamese Department introduced Honours (Major) Subject.

Our Mission

  • Providing instruction at the College level in important representative Literature, Language and Culture in Assam.
  • Offering knowledge on the courses framed by the parent University of study leading to B.A. in Assamese Literature and Language.
  • Sponsor discussions, talks, conferences, field studies, and seminars exposing general and college students to intellectual and cultural trends related to Assamese literature, language, and civilization.

Program and Outcomes:

  • The Department of Assamese has been conducting the BA Honors and BA regular programs of study.
  • Our syllabus contains different categories of Assamese literature: language, culture, and Script. In this part of the literature, students gather literary knowledge like Romantic literature, Devotional literature, Oral literature modern literature, etc. Students will get language and knowledge from the language part of the Syllabus. They will know the formation and development of Assamese language, relationship with Sanskrit, Pali, Praskir, Apaghrosa and other New Aryan languages. student also knows the World Language families. They will get cultural knowledge from the cultural part of the Syllabus. Student will be able to learn the grammatical aspects of Assamese literature, which will enhance their writing skills without errors. According to the New Curriculum, Students are able to acquire knowledge of creative arts. They have learned about creative arts like poet recitation, short story writing, film making, translation, etc.
