On 09th August 2023 the college celebrated its 45th foundation day in the college campus by hoisting the flag of Damdama College by Mrs. Pratibha Deka, HoD, Department of English, which was followed by the lighting of 45 diyas in the honor of college by the faculties, non-teaching staff and students' union which was led by Mr. Altaf Hussain, Assistant Professor, Department of Political science.
Dr. Pori Hiloidari, Associate Professor of Handique Girls Collge was invited as a chief guest of honour in the programme. She is the renowned Assamese writer and educator. She won the 2021 Sahitya Akademi Translation Award for her translated book “Danti Parar Manuh”.
The Chief Guest Dr. Pori Hiloidari delivered an insightful lecture where she stressed about the will power of people in serving good deeds for other people even if we do not have enough money and power, nowadays the new generation are incapable to build an emotional relationship and the importance of building an inter-personal relationship amongst the new generation. She also talked about the significance of understanding the mental state of great grandmothers, grandmother, aunty and mothers to develop own-feeling with the new generation and about the celebration of women’s day on 8th March, 2023 on the theme “Digit All Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality” where she talked about the essence of formulating the women’s past life stories of the villages or the cities in the digital form which will be a great value for the new generation in the future and also why we should not regret of being born in the village instead we can acquire several meaningful experiences from the village life. She also talked about how the renowned writers like Mahim Bora, Lakhimi Nandan Bora, Hemen Burgohain and Nilamani Phukan have benefitted from the village life experiences and how it helped them in the initial stages of their writing career and how they excelled throughout their career. She also stressed about the importance of the mother tongue (regional language) for creating literature in the society and how the mother tongue helps in communicating with the common people. Later, she emphasized on the importance of reading books and how we can build the habit of reading books in the college level amongst the students. She talked about how we should not stress on students’ aim in life as it might change as they grow older, instead we should focus on social services, art, sports, traveling which helps an individual to feel complete, she also talked about an individual difference and self identity. In the end, she talked about the role of teachers as a form of God who can relate with the new generation and in providing opportunities to develop life skills and to learn new things in life.
Cultural Program
The cultural program was started with College Anthem which was sung by the faculties and students at college, followed by several performances like dance and singing songs. In the programme, the faculties of Damdama College who obtained Ph.D. Degree after the joining of the Principal Dr. Suranjan Sarma, Damdama College was felicitated with gamusha by the Chief Guest, Principal and Academic In-charge of the college.
